Gap Day at Rua Red

27th January 2022

Gap Day is an initiative led by Lian Bell and Mermaid Arts Centre that offers professional freelance theatre practitioners across Ireland paid time to think, dream, research, and plan!

Martha Knight is a sound artist, sound designer, and director from Tallaght, interested in the overlaps between theatre, sound and sound technologies, music, and participation.

She is dedicated to building communities alongside and as an ingrained part of her practice, which investigates shifting relationships between audience, artist, and participant. She is the co-director of Freshly Ground Theatre, a young company in residence at the Civic Theatre, Tallaght. She is a core artist with SoloSIRENs.

Her recent work includes sound design and composition for Freshly Ground Theatre's 'This is a Blank Page', sound concept design and composition for SoloSIRENs/Tallaght Community Arts' participatory sound installation 'Cessair', and

creating a bilingual sound installation as part of Company SJ/'s 'Laethanta Sona/Happy Days', at Áras Éanna Ionad Ealaíne, Inis Oírr. She was a participant in the 8th Pan Pan International Mentorship with Terry O'Connor, to develop her solo work 'The King of All Birds', based on a collection of sourced photography of Irish homes.

Supported by Arts Council Ireland.
