BA (Hons) Media Production & Digital Arts Degree Show 2023
Technological University of Dublin – Tallaght Campus
These Four Walls
20 May - 3 June 2023
This year’s Graduate Show for the TU Dublin (Tallaght Campus) Media Production & Digital Arts Degree launches in Rua Red at 3.00pm on the 20 May. Hosted by the staff and students, the show is open to the public Monday to Saturday (10.00am -18.00pm) and runs until 3 June. This year’s show, titled ‘Within’ showcases the creative talent of the Media Production & Digital Art degrees 4th year students.
The exhibition will be held at both Gallery One and Gallery Two as part of the degree's long-standing collaboration with Rua Red, South Dublin's creative hub. The graduate show features projects created across the key production areas of the degree programme; Multimedia, Photography, Video, Audio, and Emerging Media Practices while being grounded in the Critical and Cultural Contexts strand that underpins the structure of the degree. Open to all, attendees will be able to engage with this year’s projects as they explore numerous platforms and technologies including AI, Projection Mapping, 3D Animated Films, and Video games. There are more than twenty screens across which students explore themes ranging from Irish culture and Identity to AI and morality; some work on gender expectations and mental health; a short drama on LGBT issues at school; the housing crisis and vacant properties; love and family and our sense of belonging.
The Media Production & Digital Arts Alumni award will also be presented at 3.00pm on the 20th May. The recipient of this year's award is Carl Mullan, the presenter of 2FM breakfast radio and a recent winner of Dancing With the Stars. A special ‘full screening’ day, which running from 2.00pm on the 3rd of June, will conclude the exhibition.
The work showcased in Rua Red represents just a small sample of projects completed by final-year students – please note that much of the work on display is excerpted from larger portfolios of work and is intended to give a flavour of the breadth of production from our degree programme. You can see all the individual student portfolios here.
The Media Production & Digital Arts degree at TU Dublin is a unique BA (Hons) programme in which students take practical modules across a range of media subjects, for example, TV and Digital Video Production, Interactive Multimedia, Photography, Audio and Radio Production and Emerging Media Theory and Practices. In addition, students design and develop their own portfolio websites in their final year. Practical work is complemented by study in modules such as Screen Studies, Media Politics, Media Law, and Culture & Technology. This unique mix provides students with a dynamic skillset, and our graduates go on to work in both national and international creative and cultural industries, and to complete postgraduate studies in related disciplines.
