Mother Tongues Festival 2020

  • 22 Feb - 23 Feb 2020
  • All day

The festival celebrates the best in contemporary theatre, poetry, dance, music, literature and visual arts through some of the many languages spoken in Ireland today, including Irish, Polish, Swahili, Russian and more!

Join us for more multilingual fun in 2020! Now in its third year, Mother Tongues Festival shines a spotlight on the rich artistic and cultural landscape of international artists now residing in Ireland.

Events are held in a mixture of English and in the artist’s mother tongue, offering an opportunity for you to have an immersive experience and connect through language and art.

This year’s programme includes Mamasongue, a multilingual concert for the whole family, an art workshop with Susanne Wawra, a Brazilian poetry soiree with Marluce Lima, a fun music session with Sezgin Inceel, an evening of poetry slam with the Talkatives, a painting workshop with Anca Danila.

In the lead up to the festival Rua Red will host “Thought Space” a performance/installation by Tomasz Madajczak. The artist will fill the space with his stream of consciousness expressed through two languages Polish and English; mother-tongue of the artist and his second language.

Organised by Mother Tongues, a a non-for profit organisation aimed at promoting multilingualism in Ireland, and supported by the Arts Council, South Dublin County Council Arts Office, Rua Red, The Civic and Languages Connect.
