John Conway is a visual artist working extensively in community, youth and health settings.
He uses a multi-disciplinary approach to respond to the environments and lived experiences of communities. His projects occur through sophisticated collaborative and solo work, research, project production and the commissioning of other specialists. John is the director of Other People's Practices, an artist residency program taking place in the National Forensic Mental Health Service, he is also the Creative Director of the multi award winning Kildare Young Filmmakers.
John's practice is motivated by concerns about art's role in diverse and complex settings; how do communities meaningfully engage in devising, producing and experiencing artistic responses to issues which affect them? How can the art produced with these communities remain relevant, accessible, and authentic, while balancing artistic integrity, quality and the output of boundary pushing work?.
