Rachel Swan is a 26 year old prize winning jewellery designer working from Studio 6, RUA RED.
In 2005 she won an apprenticeship with renowned jeweller and artist Alan Ardiff. Here she learned the business of craft and trained in the life. After three years of essential and practical bench skills she realised she was ready to start her own contemporary jewellery collection.
In 2008 she brought out her first range, which sold in such high profile stores as the Design Yard and The Kilkenny Design Centre and now has further stockists in Dublin and the UK.
In July 2009 Rachel received a Future Makers Grant from the Crafts Council of Ireland for a studio set up and in August she had moved into her new studio at RUA RED.
In May 2010 Rachel received her second Future Makers Grant from the Crafts Council of Ireland for exhibitions assistance.
Studio 6 is where all of Rachel’s designs are hand made using traditional techniques such as doming and forging.
"The hand made process is quite lengthy, but there’s nothing I love more than to see the final pieces, stand back and think – I made that! It’s very satisfying" she said. "It's even more satisfying to see my designs taken in to someone's life. It's a privilege to be the one craftsperson chosen by my customers".
She combines her skills with clean lines and her attention to detail which results in investment pieces which can be worn and added to forever.
Rachel’s designs mostly use hollow formed pieces to give an extremely tactile quality which she feels is imperative as jewellery needs to feel amazing as well as look stunning!
All pieces are then given Rachel’s trademark satin finish to make them noticeably contemporary. |
