Maolíosa Boyle, new Executive Director of RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre

Rua Red is pleased to announce the appointment of Maolíosa Boyle as Executive Director.

RUA RED is pleased to announce the appointment of Maolíosa Boyle as Executive Director. Prior to this Maolíosa was the founding Director of Void Contemporary Art Gallery, Derry. She has led the organisation for the last 11 years from its inception in 2005. During that time Maolíosa has curated exhibitions by artists Candice Breitz, Bill Drummond, Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Polly Morgan, Uwe Wittwer and Hiraki Sawa amongst others.

In 2013 Maolíosa was one of the curators for the Turner Prize curating both Lynette Yiadom Boakye and David Shrigley. In the same year she was on the selection panel for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale selecting Jeremy Deller. Other exhibitions have included ‘Civil Rights-We have it in our power to begin the world again’ with Lynette Yiadom Boakye, a major exhibition in collaboration with New York galleries Hauser and Wirth, Pace, Jack Shainman, Sikkema Jenkins & Co and Salon 94. This exhibition featured works by Kara Walker, Mark Bradford, Glen Ligon, Lorna Simpson, Ellen Gallagher, Hank Willis Thomas, Radcliffe Bailey, Kerry James Marshall and others.

Prior to Void Maolíosa co-ordinated various public and integrated art projects. She was a part time lecturer at The University of Ulster in Magee and has steered the visual art panel for the public art commission (2016/2017) at The Museum of Free Derry. Maolíosa is currently the Chair of Sole Purpose Productions and a member of The Bloody Sunday Trust.

Maolíosa will take up her new position as Executive Director in January.
