Individual Use
What do I have to do to use the Media Lab?
In order to use
the Media Lab you need to become a member of RUA RED. Once you have taken out membership you can phone or email to check the space is available and then book your slot. You can book session by session, or you can book several sessions in advance. Its up to you!
What’s involved in becoming a member?
Just fill in this very simple membership form and hand it in to reception with a passport sized photo. On your next visit we will give you your membership card - but you can start booking space straight away. Membership also entitles you to book our Music Rooms.
What programs do you have?
We have a full range of creative packages. Download the list here.
What equipment do you have?
We have A2 scanners & printers, Hassleblad Flextight, headphones and more. Download the list here.
How much is this going to cost me?
Our Media Lab rates are reasonable and accessible:
Hourly - €2.50
Session (4 hours) - €9
Full Day (8 hours) - €18
Week (40 hours) - €40
Is there a charge to use equipment?
Use of the Hasselblad scanner incurs a flat fee of €5 per session.
Printing charges:
HP Laser Jet printing costs: A4 €0.10
Epson Stylus Prints: A4 €1 / A3 €2 / A2 €4
I have never used these particular scanners or printers before (Epson Stylus, Hasselblad etc), can i still come in and see how i get on?
We don't have a technician on-site who can help you out if you have trouble.. so unfortunately the answer is no. We are however looking into organising Equipment Masterclasses in the future - stay tuned!
I don’t have any experience in Adobe programs can I still use the multimedia suites?
Yes - but be mindful that there is no onsite technician to help you troubleshoot. There is also a wealth of other software including iMovie, Garageband
and Microsoft Office which might suit your needs.
There are great tutorials available at http://tv.adobe.com and http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/
Usually use a PC? Check out this great PC to Mac Introduction.
Can I save work onto the computers?
No, sorry. In order to keep the macs clean and fast we ask you to bring in a USB or external hard drive to store all of your work. The machines are wiped weekly - so we don't want you to lose anything!!
Do you run any multimedia classes?
We are developing our New Media programme and you will see more and new classes and masterclasses each season. Check out the Whats On section and join our mailing list for up to date info!
Group / Class Use
Can I use the room to run my own class?
Yes you can. If you are interested in hiring the Lab you should contact Orla to arrange a visit and discuss your needs!
Hope this helps!! |
