Winter Open Exhibition 2017

Winter Open Exhibition is an annual exhibition of work from throughout the whole island of Ireland, chosen from an open submission call by Rua Red.

Alongside this years selection will be an exhibition by the 2016 Winter Open winner Oscar Dempsey

2017 exhibition is currently open for submissions:

Submissions may be in any discipline: painting, sculpture, new media, digital, printmaking, ceramics, glass, photography, installation and jewelry.

This open submission is an opportunity for graduates, emerging and established artists from Ireland (including the North) to exhibit their work in Gallery 1.

Exhibition dates: 14th December 2017 – 20th January 2018

The overall winner of the Rua Red Art Prize will be awarded a solo show in Gallery 2 at some point during the ensuing 12 month period.

Rua Red has a policy of supporting artists at all stages of their career. One of the new ways that Rua Red will implement this policy is by forming an ‘Acquisition Committee’ in September 2017. The role of the committee will be to select and purchase works from the Winter Open and Café Wall exhibition to form a new collection for the organisation. The works will go on show within the building on a rotational basis in the Conference and Meeting Room areas.

All works submitted for exhibition are considered by a Selection Panel.  

The People’s Choice Award sponsored by The Square is determined by a public vote from visitors to the exhibition, the winner will collect €1000 towards their professional practice.



Artists can submit a maximum of three works. Each submission must include the following:

  • Completed Submission Form
  • Images (maximum of 3)
  • Registration and Handling Fee payable to ‘South Dublin Arts Centre Company’

Deadline Completed application forms and payment must be received at RUA RED by 5pm on Monday, 9th October 2017

Registration Fee A Registration and Handling Fee of €10 (inclusive of VAT) is required for each completed submission form with 3 images.

This payment must be submitted with the application form. No work will be considered without payment. Cheques / postal orders should be made to ‘South Dublin Arts Centre Company’. Payment can also be made online at

Number of Works Artists may submit a maximum of three works for consideration. Submissions may be in any discipline, including but not limited to: painting, sculpture, new media, digital, printmaking, ceramics, glass, photography, installation and jewelry.

If you are selected for the exhibition more information will be provided in terms of delivery and collection of work. Please make sure your contact details are correct to facilitate this.

Sale of Work All sales are subject to 25% commission during the continuance of the exhibition. All sales are managed by Rua Red. NB The price stated on the application form is the total price payable by the purchaser (to include 25% commission).
