Alternative Entertainments presents Paul Kelly and Friends, a Des Carty Sessions 2011 event.

As part of the 8th annual Des Carty Sessions, respected Tallaght musician Paul Kelly programmes and hosts an evening of music in his hometown with some of traditional music’s finest musicians.

Paul has played and recorded with many musicians and bands including The Sackville String Band, Peter Rowan, Mick Hanly, The Fleadh Cowboys, The Waterboys, The Hothouse Flowers, Nancy Griffith, John Prine and Joe Ely, The Sharon Shannon Band, Frankie Lane, Eleanor Shanley, Jerry Fish and The Mudbug Club, Clive Barnes and The David Munnelly Band. He was introduced to Irish Traditional Music by neighbour and well-known fiddler Des Carty.

Joining Paul in RUA RED will be banjo player Dessie Kelliher from Kerry who has quickly become established worldwide as one of Ireland’s great traditional talents; accompanying Dessie will be guitarist Gary O’Brien; acclaimed American harpist Lily Neill, previous winner of the All-Ireland Harp competition; James Ryan, a fine young musician from Saggart, Co Dublin who will accompany Paul on guitar and bouzouki on the night; singer Mick McNamara whose new album Dreams of Home has recently been released; and flute player Alan Doherty, the much sought after young flute player from Tallaght, now based in Germany.

Paul’s event is another exciting night in this year’s Des Carty Sessions festival which will also feature performances from Martin Carthy, Jim Rooney, Rick Epping, The Kane Sisters and many more.
