TALLAVISION 3K: A Play about Tallaght in 3009

TALLAVISION 3K is a performance by a group of young people from Tallaght that takes a unique look at Tallaght using drama, sound recording, movement and story-telling. Tallavision 3K explores what Tallaght in 2009 will look like from the perspective of Tallaght in 3009, how history gets recorded and who records it.

Tallaght Youth Theatre, working with Tallaght Community Arts (TCA) has created TALLAVISION 3K, in which the participating young people have designed a performance through an exploration of Tallaght, its inhabitants and history. It grew out of the D’No project, which was a response by the members of Tallaght Youth Theatre to their hazy notion of the history of Tallaght.

Diane O’Connor and John Conroy of TYT led a series of workshops that explored history, out of which TYT Director Joe Cully wrote an outline for a show. Tallaght Community Arts were then invited to produce the performance piece, and TCA Director Tony Fegan commissioned writer and director Jenny MacDonald to work with him on creating the performance with the young people. Tony and Jenny have worked with each other previously as part of the Phakama Project, an international and intercultural arts initiative for young people.

The participating young people have been working on the project for a number of weeks, culminating in an intense period of rehearsals this week leading up to the weekend performances. They are using many of the Phakama methods in developing the performance, which will start outside RUA RED and use the foyer area as well as the performance space.
